CHAPTER 6

Shaking my head and wanting to laugh, I had found myself in a weird predicament.

The reason why I was able to hide here, was because someone had taken away the garbage container. Now it had returned, but, it also blocked off my escape…

Mmm, should I be happy or sad about this?!

Not sure on my current situation, I decided though, that it should be safe enough to have a rest. The body was still that of a toddler, needing a lot of sleep was normal. Well those were my thoughts, as I could feel my exhausted, and still painful body, drift off to sleep.

Several days later, I was still in my hiding spot. Actually, I quite liked it here…

It was warm, and the garbage wasn’t too bad. I was eating more now, than I was before! Sadly, I had to extend quite an amount of effort to get food, and the other downside was…I was pretty filthy. I knew that if I stayed much longer, I would be found out or I’d get sick. My wounds hadn’t completely healed, and I was really worried about one of them, as it looked like it was starting to fester. It had been a small area on the heel of my foot, and I knew that if I let it go, without medical attention, it would only get worse. The only thing I could do, was attempt to burn the fester off of my foot. I looked around, but couldn’t find anything, so the next option was to look into the garbage container. I didn’t particularly know what I had found, but it seemed like it was small enough and could reach to a hot temperature. To the best of my ability, I cleaned the small area and then waited for the fire to heat up the end of what I had found.

Having burned the skin off, that had festered, with trembling hands and cloth to bite on in my mouth, I had looked at my poor foot in dismay. It really hurt!

After that, I checked it everyday and kept it as clean as I could…I really didn’t want to do that again!

Funnily enough, the kitchen people were quite chatty. I was able to learn a few more things that helped entertain my days. Even though I heard about my own disappearance, I still believed it to be entertainment. They had spent little time to search for me and no one was investigated to get any answers. Even the nanny and maid servants from my ‘house’ weren’t punished for not watching me. It truly came across as though they had a legitimate reason to be rid of me completely and even didn’t want to put in the effort to close the case.

h.e.l.l, they didn’t even tell the authorities of my missing body…Wouldn’t it be funny if I pretended to haunt the estate!?

To any of this, I didn’t take much offense. I did worry a tiny bit, but that was only because my body was so young and pitiful. I honestly wanted to get rid of them as my family as well, just as they are getting rid of me.

Since I found that I was being ignored and neglected, I knew I would have to leave one day, just, I had thought that I had a bit more time on my hands…

Then there was finally news that helped me out tremendously! There was something inside of the kitchen that could also help keep me cleaner!

How awesome! Now I can make the kitchen my permanent residence…At least for now.

Just like this, an entire year went by, making me two years old. I ate leftovers, sometimes stealing real meals. I didn’t do this often though, because I didn’t want to be found. The strange thing about the kitchen, it did get cleaned, but they only cleaned where I was hiding, once every month. During that time, they would take the garbage out and I would leave, so they can clean it for me. Then, I would have to get back in there, before they replaced the cleaned, empty garbage container. I had nearly gotten caught once, but I got a quick understanding of their routines and made sure to stay aware.

An advantage I did receive, was that of getting to know about olden day cooking. Since I hadn’t much to do, I listened and smelled the food cooking and seemed to learn a few things about cooking and ingredients…

I would also constantly use the method the kitchen maid had said, to clean myself. Actually, that was one of the easiest things I had to do! A certain steam would come off one of the items that they would cook, and all I had to do was remove my clothes and sweat a bit. Being able to leave once in awhile, I had a few spare, clean cloths that I would use to dry myself with afterwards.

When it came to my ‘deeds’, I struggled, but most of it went into the fire or garbage. It was quite tragic how I had to deal with something that happened so often, but I wasn’t ready yet to show myself or go elsewhere. What helped me, was that on the rare occasion, I would exert extra effort in placing some of my ‘deeds’ into the food that would be cooking close by me. I had to be very careful and could only do it when there was no lid on the cookpot!

By this time, I could walk, and easily could take things out of the garbage container, because I had grown…And when the garbage container is taken away, I take that chance to wander around and stretch my legs…It became a routine, and I continued to endure…
